Cleaning your pool cover is essential for both the lifespan of the cover and the quality of the pool water. By regularly removing dirt, limescale, and algae, you prevent buildup that can affect the water and damage the cover. How often you clean depends on the environment: a location with many trees or debris requires more frequent maintenance. At Roldeck®, we recommend performing a thorough cleaning two to three times a year. In this article, we provide a step-by-step guide to keeping your Roldeck® in top condition.

Remove dirt and leaves
Start by removing leaves, dirt, and other debris. This prevents dirt from falling into the niche or causing unnecessary scratches. Use a telescopic pole with a brush to gently wipe the cover clean. Use a garden hose or a pressure washer on a low setting to rinse off the slats. Make sure the water jet isn't too powerful to avoid damaging the slats. Start on one side and work systematically from left to right to remove all remaining dirt. Use a soft brush or sponge for stubborn dirt.
Important: if you remove the slats, make sure they are not exposed to the sun.
Use Roldeck® cleaner
Algae can accumulate, especially in the hinges and gaps of the slats. The Roldeck® cleaner helps remove this green layer and leaves your system fresh and clean again. Make sure the hinges of the closed Roldeck® are visible. Dilute the cleaner to a 5% solution and spray it evenly over the cover. Let the product sit for about 30 to 60 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with water and fully open the cover so all the slats are submerged in the water.
Treat limescale
Limescale can develop on the top of the slats due to water evaporation. Use Roldeck® descaler when your slat cover is affected by limescale. Apply the descaler to the slats (approximately 1 liter per 10 m²) with a spray bottle. Allow the product to sit for 1 to 2 hours. Then spray thoroughly from left to right to rinse off the limescale residue. You can also lightly brush the slats beforehand to remove stubborn limescale. After this treatment, the pool water may become slightly cloudy; allow the filter to run for a few days and check the pH value to maintain a stable water environment.
Storing slats
To keep the cover mold-free and fresh, it's important to let the slats dry completely. Use a squeegee to remove excess water. Do you want to store the cover? Move the left slat upward relative to the right one, so the top hook comes out of the closure. Then remove the bottom hook and separate the slats by about 10 cm with a screwdriver. Let the cover air dry before rolling it up or putting it away. This prevents damp spots from causing mold. Always store the slats in a dry and dark place to prevent damage from direct sunlight exposure.
It is recommended to have your Roldeck® system inspected by a specialized Roldeck® installer at least once a year. This maintenance can detect any wear or minor malfunctions at an early stage. If any issues arise, always report them to your installer to address the problems quickly and ensure the longevity of your Roldeck®.
