The Difference in Durability and Performance

Polycarbonate or PVC?

The first step is choosing the right material. Polycarbonate slats are more scratch-resistant, stronger, impact-resistant, and have a longer lifespan than PVC slats. Additionally, they are better at withstanding high temperatures, hail, and storms. The highest-quality product in the Roldeck® range, the Solar Eclipse®, is also made from polycarbonate and has several unique features. These slats are equipped with a built-in UV blocker, which provides excellent protection against UV radiation. Furthermore, Solar Eclipse® slats transfer the sun’s heat to the water and offer a high insulation value. On the other hand, PVC slats are smaller and more affordable, making them an ideal choice for a limited budget or compact systems.

The Perfect Match for Your Pool

Color and Style

The color of the slats plays a crucial role in the appearance of your pool. When choosing the color, make sure that the slats harmoniously match the surroundings, the terrace, and the pool color. The Alu-look and Volcano Grey have a metallic effect that beautifully glistens in the sun and fits perfectly with modern pools. Through a special production process, this aluminum-look coating is applied to the inner side of the solar slat, ensuring that it does not affect the solar function. An additional benefit is that condensation formation is less noticeable compared to transparent slats. Traditional colors like blue and white enhance a classic look, while shades of gray effortlessly blend into contemporary environments. Cream-colored slats are a popular choice in warmer countries due to their excellent resistance to UV radiation.

Finish of the Slats

Solar, Transparent, or Opaque?

The appearance and functionality of the slat are greatly determined by the finish. Solar slats can be recognized by a black underlayer that absorbs solar heat and then transfers it to the water. Transparent slats create a modern look and, combined with pool lighting, create an atmospheric play of light. The advantage of opaque slats is that no condensation is visible. Your choice depends on the desired look you are seeking.

Influence of a Slat on Buoyancy

Size and Closed Chambers

The wider, thicker, and more closed chambers a slat has, the more stable it will float on the water. Take the PC83 slat, for example: with its width of 83 mm and four closed chambers, it offers excellent buoyancy (11.3 kg/m²), which means it can support more than twice the weight of PVC 50 (4.8 kg/m²). This is ideal for larger pools and gives a modern look. However, the downside is that larger slats take up more space when rolled up, making them less suitable for small niches or compact roller systems. Smaller variants, such as the PC60 and PVC50, fit better in smaller spaces.
